About Alarife

Established in 2010, Alarife Urban Associates (AUA) provides support services to firms, organizations, and communities engaged in improving urban environments in the Middle East and Latin America.  We develop, advise, and evaluate initiatives that are grounded in context and local ownership, committed to environmental responsibility and gender equality, and fluent in global practice.  AUA helps communities and organizations plan for long-term outcomes in economic & social developmentheritage preservation & cultural resource managementurban planning & governancegreen economies, and housing, land & finance.

Our experiences have nurtured a life-long commitment to cities in emerging economies–sites of serious challenges but also of innovation and optimism.  We are committed to being responsible partners in the effort to improve the environments, systems, and lives of communities worldwide.  AUA Partners have partnered with international organizations such as the Aga Khan Development Network, the World Bank, the International Labor Organization, the KFW Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and others.

Composed of urban planning graduates from Harvard and MIT, AUA’s team is grounded in the most current planning and development scholarship and the field’s best practices.  AUA’s professionals have substantial field expertise in regenerating cities across the Middle East and Latin America.  With over 10 years of professional experience in strategic planning, our team includes two Fulbright Scholars and enjoys high professional fluency in English, Spanish, Arabic–Standard as well as North African and Levantine Colloquial–French and Portuguese.  Alarife’s work spans a number of continents, with recent on-site experiences in projects in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Morocco, Syria, the GCC, the United States, India, Pakistan, Nigeria and more.
